When is the best time to pray? Any time! When to pray is often a question asked by those new to Christianity and or those who have questions about their spirituality. The most wonderful thing about God is that He is always there, and He wants to hear from you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re new to the Christian faith or you’ve been a devout Christian all your life.

How Do You Determine the Best Time to Pray?

When is the best time to pray? Is it a morning prayer or a night time prayer? New believers to Christianity will find numerous passages in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible about prayer and praying. However, the New Testament book of First Thessalonians 5:17, tells us to ‘pray without ceasing’. It also tells us to ‘…in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.’

God the Father in Heaven is present at all times. You can say a morning prayer, an afternoon prayer, a night time prayer, or pray in the middle of the night, and He will hear you. That’s the best thing to know about praying and prayers. Praying is your opportunity to have a conversation with God. Be honest, respectful, and humble when you pray.

Throughout the New Testament, we are told that Jesus often prayed in the morning. In the New Testament book of Mark (1:35) we are told; ‘Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.’

Many Christians pray alone, either speaking out loud or from their heart. Either way, God hears you. The important thing is to focus on your communion with God and know that through your faith in Him and His son Jesus Christ, you will be heard. Remember that belief requires faith and faith requires belief. It can’t be overstated.

When you pray is up to you. An early morning prayer can be given to ask for a good day, safety, and strength in your ability to meet and overcome challenges with grace. An evening or night time prayer can be offered to thank the Lord for another day with your loved ones, for your health, or for stamina.

When praying, don’t forget to always thank God for what you have. Your prayers should not be focused on only what you want or what you need. In the new Testament book of Matthew (6:8), Jesus Christ tells us ‘For your Father knows those things you have need of before you ask Him.’

When Is Your Best Time to Pray?

When is your best time to pray? For most, it is when you can find a moment or two of solitude. Whether you pray in your home, outside, when you’re taking a walk or riding a bike, that’s the best time to pray. When you say a morning prayer or night time prayer, that’s the best time to pray. Many Christians pray numerous times throughout the day.

Prayers are often said in church. When you’re outside of church, your praying time is a personal endeavor, they don’t have to be said in private, but your prayers don’t have to be said with others either. Your prayers just have to come from the depths of your soul, with your faith and belief that God and His Son Jesus Christ will hear you. Pray to the Heavenly Father, and to Christ His Son with courtesy and humility. When you pray for something you believe you need, don’t forget to say thank you.

When offering blessings or thanks, the best time to pray is when you have a moment that you can completely devote to your prayer and your communication with God and in the name of His Son. A prayer doesn’t have to be a certain length or use fancy words. You don’t have to close your eyes, and you don’t have to be in a certain posture. Of course, closing your eyes can help you focus your thoughts and somewhat mentally isolate yourself from what’s going on around you. You can kneel, fold your hands in prayer, and bow your head, but you don’t have to. You can also pray when going for a walk, while observing what God has wrought while you walk.

God does want to hear from us. When we pray, we are observing our faith and recognizing and acknowledging our belief in God, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit and the sacrifices that Christ made on our behalf. God is always present, so your prayers are not required at a certain time of day.

Acknowledging Your Spirituality

When praying, regardless of where or when, you are engaging in your relationship with God, the Holy Ghost, and Christ, His only begotten son. Spirituality is not only faith and belief in the existence of God, but the transformation that such faith and belief can bring within you. Because God is a spirit, we mere humans must also worship Him in spirit.

When you pray, you are acknowledging your faith and belief in the Heavenly Father, and are acknowledging also your faith in Jesus Christ, His son, and that we must endeavor to live our lives according to the Holy Spirit. The New Testament book of Romans, 8:11 tells us ‘But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.’

Your prayers are welcomed anytime you wish to say them, regardless of the time of day. Your prayers can be simple and brief and He will still hear you. Don’t feel awkward or shy or embarrassed when you pray. Remember, you’re speaking to God, who created you! He wants to hear from you. Figuring out the best time to pray isn’t the most important aspect of your Christian journey, but prayer is one of the foundations of your faith.
